THE CALCAREOUS LIMESTONE

• The sand products produced Latomia Latouros Ltd are unique, given how Cyprus was created by – arose from the sea.
• Latouros natural sand’s particles are spherical shaped, working like a bearing when used in construction applications as part of a concrete mix. The sand particles' special shape gives better workability and allows concrete producers to reduce their water-cement ratio. The less water, the higher the concrete strength. Using “Latouros sand” in concrete, also means using less cement, thus lower concrete production cost.

The quarrying process

• The excavation of the calcareous limestone is mainly done using mechanical means, more specifically, with a Cat D10T2 crawler dozer ripper.
• In cases where the deposits are harder, the initial excavation is done by implementing safe, efficient and cost-effective drilling and blasting.

The quarry team

• The quarry’s skilful team has gathered a wealth of knowledge about the unique characteristics of the calcareous limestone. The team uses its background to design shot patterns that balance the desired breakage outcomes with the cost of achieving them. The quarry team’s members have specialised training in drilling and blasting ensuring the work is completed with professionalism and within the European regulations.
